Grupo Morón drives industrial sustainability

A shared commitment that combines improvements to industrial processes with the development of more sustainable materials and products

Sustainability has become one of the major challenges facing industry and requires shared responsibility among all the stakeholders involved in the development and manufacture of a product. Its impact depends not only on how a product is manufactured, but also on the materials selected, the technologies used and the decisions made throughout its entire value chain.

At Grupo Morón, we approach this commitment from two perspectives: continuously improving our own industrial activities by optimising processes and reducing their environmental impact, while making advanced materials, technologies and solutions available to the market to support the development of more sustainable products.

This vision is embodied in onMovement®, our global sustainability and social responsibility initiative, which reflects our commitment to the environment, people and industrial activity. Through this initiative, we promote actions to improve our processes, optimise resource use, reduce environmental impact and support social and environmental projects.

onSustainable®: materials and solutions for developing more sustainable products

As part of this vision, onSustainable® brings together the materials and developments that Grupo Morón makes available to the market to incorporate sustainability criteria into the development of new products.

Our research and development activities focus, among other areas, on materials incorporating natural fibres, bio-based raw materials and recycled fibres. These include:

  • onSteam® Bioeco: Microfibre combining a bio-based polymer, obtained through the fermentation of corn starch, with recycled polyester fibres derived from textile waste. The bio-based polymer offers a 63% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions and a 40% reduction in energy consumption compared with the nylon 6.6 polymer used as a reference.
  • Bamboo: Fabrics that can contain up to 100% bamboo fibres, an alternative to petroleum-derived fibres. These fibres are recyclable and biodegradable. The fabrics are characterised by their absorbency and thermoregulating properties, and are hypoallergenic.
  • Velures and other developments: The incorporation of recycled materials is part of the ongoing development of our product range, as demonstrated by some fabrics in the Velures family and other new developments incorporating natural and recycled fibres.

With onSustainable®, we expand the range of available material options, offering alternatives that make it possible to incorporate sustainability criteria into the development of new products without losing sight of their technical and functional requirements.

More sustainable manufacturing technologies and processes

Product sustainability also depends on the processes used in its manufacture. That is why we work to introduce new technologies and optimise our production methods:

  • Digital textile printing: Compared with traditional techniques such as screen printing, pad printing and transfer printing, digital printing makes it possible to increase production capacity and reduce energy consumption.
  • Water-based solvents: We use water-based solvents that are free from substances harmful to health, eliminating emissions of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) associated with the products they replace.
  • Production optimisation: We review manufacturing protocols and implement measures to reduce electricity consumption and improve process efficiency. We also encourage responsible resource use through employee training and awareness-raising.

Circular economy: connecting sectors to develop new materials

At Grupo Morón, we apply circular economy principles to make better use of resources and transform waste into new raw materials for industrial applications. Convixion, our circular economy project, brings together agricultural, livestock and textile activities.

  • Convixion Estate: Organic waste from horse breeding is used as fertiliser for the olive groves, which are cultivated using ecological farming practices to produce organic olive oil.
  • Equ-Olitex: A research project aimed at obtaining textile materials from organic waste generated by olive oil production. Its development opens up potential applications in sectors such as footwear, fashion, orthopaedics and leisure. Convixion Textile also has a range of textile products for the care and protection of horses, made using recycled materials.

More efficient industrial activity with a lower environmental impact

This development of materials and processes goes hand in hand with more efficient resource management. At Grupo Morón, we implement measures to reduce our environmental impact and improve energy and production efficiency:

  • Renewable energy: Our facilities in Arnedo (La Rioja, Spain) have 1,713 solar panels, enabling us to achieve 71% electricity self-sufficiency and reduce our dependence on external energy sources.
  • Carbon footprint: We measure our carbon footprint and have developed a reduction plan covering energy consumption, travel and production processes. In 2024, the organisation's total emissions amounted to approximately 562,974 kg of CO₂ equivalent, 9% less than in the previous year.
  • Waste management and recovery: We recycle around 500 tonnes of waste each year through a sorting and classification system. Recyclable materials are sent to specialised waste management companies, while non-recyclable waste undergoes mechanical treatment so that it can be used as fuel in cement plants or electricity generation facilities. We also have air filtration systems using carbon particles and wastewater treatment systems.

Quality, certifications and responsible commitment

Sustainability must be supported by management systems and verifiable standards. At Grupo Morón, we have an integrated quality and environmental management system certified in accordance with the UNE-EN ISO 9001:2015 and UNE-EN ISO 14001:2015 standards, with the latter certified since 2008. We also hold Global Recycled Standard (GRS) certification.

Our commitment also encompasses social and environmental responsibility:

  • Morón No Limits: We promote workplace inclusion by outsourcing work to companies that employ people with disabilities.
  • Supporting sport and society: We sponsor initiatives such as Biontech Fit&Goal, Superprestigio MTB by Biontech, Biontech Equestrian and Biontech Fit&Run.
  • Grupo Morón For the Oceans: In collaboration with Gravity Wave, we are driving a project to remove more than 10 tonnes of plastic from the sea, including discarded fishing nets. The project involves reusing and transforming the recovered material into furniture for the Convixion estate and our corporate stands.

Developing more sustainable products together

At Grupo Morón, we work to improve our processes and put our technical capabilities, materials and manufacturing technologies at the service of more sustainable products.

We work with our customers to select the right materials and combine the most suitable processes for each application, integrating sustainability criteria from the earliest stages of development.

Because sustainability is a shared responsibility, extending from industrial processes to the products that reach the market.
