onSteam Bio-Eco The First Recycled Corn Microfiber

onSteam Bio-Eco is the first eco-friendly microfiber made from corn and recycled fibers, delivering breathability, absorption and total dryness

What is onSteam Bio-Eco?

onSteam Bio-Eco is the world's first recycled corn microfiber available on the market.

An innovative manufacturing process developed by Grupo Morón makes it possible to combine organic materials such as corn with recycled fibers to obtain a premium-quality microfiber.

The production process begins with the harvesting of corn plants. Glucose is then extracted and, through sugar fermentation, transformed into a monomer. A subsequent polymerization process converts this monomer into a polymer from which nonwoven textile fibers are produced.

Finally, these fibers are blended with other recycled fibers and treated with a special water-based polyurethane finish that provides a leather-like touch while significantly enhancing the material's mechanical properties.

Thanks to the organic-origin content of onSteam Bio-Eco, up to 30% of the material is classified as biodegradable.

In addition, following the principles of the circular economy, we promote an active recycling process by collecting production leftovers and recycling them into new products, thereby helping to reduce our carbon footprint.

onSteam Bio-Eco Free from Harmful Substances

Respect for both end users and the environment has been a key principle in the development of this textile. The manufacturing process reduces CO₂ emissions and uses water-based solvents free from substances harmful to human health.

Special attention has been given to eliminating hazardous substances and ensuring that all chemical components comply with demanding regulations such as CADS and Regulation (EC) No. 1907/2006 (REACH). As a result, the product has achieved OEKO-TEX® Standard 100 Class I certification, making it suitable even for contact with babies' skin. It has also been certified by the European Vegetarian Union.

Maximum Resistance According to UNE EN 20345

Despite being a recycled material partially derived from corn, onSteam Bio-Eco comfortably exceeds the requirements of the UNE EN 20345 Standard, including tests for tensile strength, abrasion resistance, water vapor permeability (breathability), and color fastness after use according to UNE EN ISO 105-X12 and UNE EN ISO 105-E01.

For this reason, onSteam Bio-Eco is particularly recommended for the manufacture of products requiring maximum resistance and durability, such as linings and insoles for safety footwear, as well as other personal protective equipment and high-performance applications.
